Bryce Canyon NP is Utah's smallest NP. What is interesting is it isn't a canyon. Technically canyons are carved by rivers, Bryce is actually a series of eroding cliffs on the eastern rim of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The cliffs have formed brightly colored rock amphitheaters decorated with bizarrely shaped ridges, fins and hoodoos. Bryce is also Utah's highest elevation NP. Bryce became a National Monument in 1923 thanks to President Warren G Harding and was redesignated a National Park in 1928 by Congress.
If you only have one day in Bryce as we did the Queen's Garden Trail is the way to go. It is not loop trail so choose which end you want to start and take the shuttle back to your car.
